About Redwood Field Advisors
Kaohsiung-based franchise readiness advisory for regional brands. Official registered business name, history, and team expertise.
Official business information
Registered business name: Redwood Field Advisors Co., Ltd.
Established: 2012
Registered jurisdiction: Taiwan (Republic of China)
Redwood Field Advisors began in Kaohsiung when founder James Kuo, a former franchise operations director for a southern Taiwan bakery chain, began consulting independently for specialty food and retail owners approached by franchise brokers. The firm incorporated in 2012 to formalize field-based readiness assessments that franchisors and investors could rely on before franchise agreements were drafted.
Our history
From 2012 through 2016, the practice focused on single-city food service brands with three to eight locations. Client work expanded to personal care and specialty retail as owners in those categories faced similar readiness gaps—strong flagship performance but undocumented procedures.
In 2018, Redwood Field Advisors moved to its current Kaohsiung office and added structured scoring methodology across six readiness domains. By 2022, engagements regularly included cross-city visits in Tainan, Taichung, and Taipei, reflecting brands preparing for island-wide franchise offers.
Today the firm remains intentionally focused on franchise readiness rather than brokerage, recruitment, or legal drafting. We advise owners; we do not sell franchise territories.
What we do
We help regional brands answer a specific question: can this concept support franchisees who have not worked inside the company? Our work combines on-site observation, financial modeling, document review, and executive briefings—delivered by consultants who have managed franchise operations, not general management theorists.
Our team
- James Kuo — Managing Director. Fifteen years in franchise operations and unit openings across Taiwan food service.
- Elena Wu — Senior Consultant. Former regional training manager; leads training systems reviews and curriculum gap analysis.
- Marcus Lin — Field Analyst. Conducts on-site operations audits and documents procedure variances across shifts.
- Sophie Huang — Market Analyst. Territory mapping, rent benchmarking, and competitor landscape research.
Working approach
We begin every engagement with scope clarity—what will be observed, which documents are required, and what the report will not cover. Field days are scheduled around peak service periods because quiet-hour visits miss the operational stress franchisees inherit.
Reports are written for owners and boards, not padded to justify follow-on consulting. When we recommend delaying franchising, we specify remediation steps with realistic timelines.
Values
- Field evidence over assumptions — We visit locations and read actual manuals; we do not score readiness from slide decks alone.
- Franchisee fairness — Franchising succeeds when franchisees can earn returns; we flag economics that only work for the franchisor.
- Regional respect — Taiwan’s districts differ; we avoid importing franchise playbooks from unrelated markets without adaptation.
Relationship to clients
Most clients are owner-operators or family-held groups with 2–20 units. We also work with investor-backed regional brands preparing franchise programs for capital events. Engagements are confidential; we do not publish client names without written permission—stories on our reviews page use approved names or anonymized details.
